Pepper, my eleven year old cocker spaniel passed away this morning. It was something I was mentally prepared for, but no matter what you can say or do the death of someone that close to you still hurts. The last time I saw her was earlier this month. She wasn’t acting like herself, a lot more distant and quiet; like she knew her time was coming. So when I left to come back to my apartment, I said my goodbyes, feeling that’d be the last time I saw her.
Pepper was the last of my seven original dogs and was one of the ones I was closest to. She lived at my home while the others lived with my grandmother. I can remember the first time I saw her, scrawny little runt who was locked away in the back of the pet store. Normally, I would have picked out a larger breed or a mutt, but that little purebred won me over in seconds.
Whenever I was home, Pepper never left my side for too long, even following me into the bathroom because she couldn’t stay away from me. And don’t get me started on her and food. The one thing she loved more then my family was food.
She was one of my best friends. If I was ever hurt or upset, she was always there to comfort me in her pushy, bossy, snooty way. I’ve got plenty of pictures and videos of her to remember her by (Pepper barking at Skyward Sword, Pepper Eating Peanut Butter, Pepper looking for me, Pepper not doing her tricks on camera, there’s a ton XD) so I know that her memory won’t be lost
She was always a happy dog, we took really good care of her and not a single person I can think of disliked her. She had the cutest, award winning smile and was friendly with both other dogs and people. The only thing she hated was taking a bath XD!
She also has a character in Wolf Song that was made specifically for her. She's one of the only friends I had that was older than the comic (Wolf Song started in March of 2001) so I felt like she deserved a dedication in the story.
If I seem distant, or am not active for a while, that’s why. We’re getting her cremated and my parents are gonna hold off on burying the box until I visit them.
I'm very sorry for your loss. My dog, Sophie died last year, and I know how you feel. I don't know if this will help you as much as helped me.. But right after my dog died, I watched this video, and you have no idea how it helped me. [link] I hope things get easier for you and your family, somehow. (; Good luck!
